A Really Good Documentary Look at the State of Music – Before the Music Dies

I love Hulu.com for many reasons but the other day I viewed a documentary about the modern music industry, none of which was a surprise to me. I generally think of the large record labels as slow, lethargic, non-innovative and not really caring about the music or artists, and mainstream radio as boring waste of time after the 1st hour of listening to it. After all the the DJ/Radio Personality or whatever doesn’t get to choose there own music, in most cases, the same playlist of 20 songs in handed down to them from high above. All they provide is the nice voice, “the personality” to go with it.

Finding music from the internet has been a refuge for me. It been a why to find new music from artists I’ve never heard of. New styles, new types, I actually feel like I’m in the know way above anyone who just listens to commercial radio. I think people like myself both consume and produce music in some form simply for the love of music, hence my particular podcast. Through podcasting and the internet in general, you can find many different forms and combination of music that would never get put on radio that way it is done in the internet universe.

Take a view and tell me what you think.

The Hot 6 – vol.7 March 2009 – Spring is Here!!!

Spring has finally arrived and with it brings a renewing of sprint and beauty. I’m quite excited because the Atlanta Jazz Festival is back on after being originally canceled for this year. This year it will be at Grant Park the weekend of May 23rd and 24th. For you smooth jazz fans if you haven’t heard yet, Renay Miller from the former 107.5 now hosts the Sunday Morning Jazz Brunch on WCLK 91.1 Sunday mornings from 11-3pm. Don’t let me forget Jazz in Centennial Park on Wednesday’s. This edition of The Hot 6 brings in some warm sounds that feel like Spring to me. Hope you enjoy them as well. Until next time be easy and support live music where you are.

The Hot 6 – vol. 6 – March 2009

I decided to do something a bit different this time a broadcast what is really my 1st podcast using PodOmatic. We’ll see how it goes:-) Anyway we start off with a tune from the Kush Griffith Blues Band. Legendary funk backbone from Parliament/Boosty/ and the J.B.’s, a fun tune “Caption Pee”. Next is a kinetic groove from “Creeper” entitled “Roti Roll”. We get a double take from them with another song called “Ten” with is out 4th selection. “The 8-Ball Is Neutral”, from the “J. Steinkoler Quartet” is a nice straight up jazz piece, again along with “Ten”. “Pru” gives up a easy sounding comfortable song called “183 miles”, and end the set with a retro futuristic groove from ” Bamboo Hustler” called “Ray Gun”. Remember support local music where you are. Until next time be easy.
